With the release of Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos’s first education budget draft, there’s no question about it: If the Trump administration gets its way, generations of students will lose out on a quality education. We can’t let this happen.
Here in Oregon, we’ve already seen what disinvestment does to schools. Today, Oregon has the third largest class sizes in the nation, one of the shortest school years, and rapidly rising college costs — and that’s without any help from Donald Trump. Under Trump’s budget proposal, things can only get worse. He’s proposing major cuts to class-size reduction efforts, teacher training, and nearly every form of college aid.
Now is the time to fight back. We must make critical investments in our underfunded schools, protecting them from Trump’s cuts and allowing every kid to get the education they deserve. But we need your help: Our leaders must defend our schools from these dangerous cuts, and that will only happen if you speak up. Tell your legislator to stand with Speaker Kotek and Chairs Barnhart and Nathanson and support the Oregon Education Investment Initiative.
