Republicans in Congress just jammed through a tax bill that would devastate Oregon for generations to come. Their proposal takes from working families to give $1.5 trillion to big corporations and the über rich, devastating our healthcare, education, senior services, and social safety net along the way.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the GOP tax plan also incentivizes some of the worst corporate behavior. Right now, big corporations are estimated to have between $1.6 and $2.1 trillion in untaxed profits stashed offshore. Rather than making big business pay up, Trump and his cronies have riddled our tax code with loopholes that actually reward offshoring even more profits.
Corporations don’t need these handouts: They’re already raking in record profits, and here in Oregon, they pay among the lowest corporate taxes in the nation. We’ve seen what that means for our families and communities — in just one year, corporate offshoring cost Oregon $283 million, money that could go to lowering our class sizes, investing in healthcare, or lifting seniors out of poverty. But big corporations get away with unethical behavior time and time again because they can hide behind anti-accountability policies like the ones codified in the GOP tax plan.
It’s time to shine a light on big business’ tax tricks. Add your name to support corporate transparency in Oregon!
